Orange and Green

Orange is the color between yellow and red on the spectrum of visible light. In painting and traditional color theory, it is a secondary color of pigments, created by mixing yellow and red. It is named after the fruit of the same name.

Green is the color between blue and yellow on the visible spectrum. In subtractive color systems, used in painting and color printing, it is created by a combination of yellow and blue, or yellow and cyan. By far the largest contributor to green in nature is chlorophyll, the chemical by which plants photosynthesize and convert sunlight into chemical energy.

Wallpaper Description:

To me the very best thing about Autumn in Michigan is the colorful leaves! I took a break from computer hues for awhile, and used onlyAutumn Leaves (and some sky) to make these colored designs. All of the leaves are from photographs that I took this year.

I made it my goal to have at least parts of recognizable Autumn leaves in each of these designs. Silver, Red, Sugar, and Norway maple leaves are prominent in these designs because tend to be very vividly colored. But I used many types of others also, including leaves of sassafras, beech, Eastern cottonwood, elm leaves and white and red oak leaves. If they had interesting shapes or beautiful colors, they were in!

Made From Sunny Autumn
I took the photo that this sunny wall is based on in the late afternoon sunshine. I had some colorful leaves I'd collected on a tray. I had a hard time keeping the leaves from blowing away, and I was a bit troubled about the deep shadows the leaves were casting. The shadows ended up working beautifully into the pattern. :D
