Tragedy in Texas

An explosion at a Texas fertilizer plant killed as many as 15 people, injured 160, flattened houses and devastated the center of the town of West in the worst U.S. industrial disaster in three years.

Search-and-rescue crews that combed the ruins of the World Trade Center after the 2001 attacks have been dispatched to the scene about 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Dallas, said Waco Police Sergeant William Patrick Swanton at a news conference today. Three to five firefighters remained unaccounted for more than 14 hours after Adair Grain Inc.’s fertilizer mill erupted in flames and exploded.
