For lovers of all things Victorian and Victoriana including modern pieces inspired by Victorian era art and design... Homemade wallpapers that include Victorian design elements are welcome!
Victorian or Victoriana refers to items, designs, or materials from the Victorian Period (1837–1901), especially those particularly evocative of the design, style, and mood of the time. Victoriana tends to reflect the tastes of the period. Dusty pastel colours, lace parasols, lace fans, calling cards, and floral scrollwork including birds, flowers and vines are some common design examples.
Interest in the language of flowers or "floriography" soared in Victorian England and in the United States during the 19th century. Gifts of very specific floral arrangements were used to send a coded message to the recipient, allowing the sender to express feelings which could not be spoken aloud in Victorian society. Armed with floral dictionaries, Victorians often exchanged small "talking bouquets," called nosegays or tussie-mussies, which could be worn or carried as a fashion accessory.
