Snowflakes

A snowflake is either a single ice crystal or an aggregation of ice crystals which falls through the Earth's atmosphere. They begin as snow crystals which develop when microscopic supercooled cloud droplets freeze. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regimes, such that individual snowflakes are nearly unique in structure. Snowflakes encapsulated in rime form balls known as graupel. Snowflakes appear white in color despite being made of clear ice. This is due to diffuse reflection of the whole spectrum of light by the small crystal facets.

Wallpaper Description:

This year really had me wondering if Spring was ever going to come! The weather in Metro Detroit, Michigan would be frigid for 4 or 5 days, warm up a bit for a day or two, and then would get cold again. There were many days in the low 20's with windchills in the teens. I got excited whenever the temperature struggled up to 45 degrees.

We had snow, ice, and rain all by turns. Major League Baseball games all over the country were cancelled because of the cold. Sometimes they were called off because of snow, but not always. On April 5th, I watched the Detroit Tigers play the White Sox in Chicago on TV. Snow was pouring down on the field like salt out of a shaker, and it lasted through most of the game. Players blew on their hands trying to keep them warm.

The last straw for me was when a major ice storm came in Saturday night, April 14th. The bad weather continued into Sunday. When we got back from church, our power was out. With the temperature in the 20's, our house got cold fast.

Altogether, 400,000 customers lost power. We got our power back 37 hours later on Monday evening. Some people didn't get their power back until Thursday morning.

Although we were very thankful to get lights and warmth in the house again, we did not get our internet, phones, or TV back until Friday afternoon. I managed to log into DN with my tablet a few times from work, but on the whole, I was stranded.

I wasn't surprised when I learned that Detroit and it's entire metropolitan area had broken temperature records from the 1870's. When all is said and done this Spring may turn out to be the coldest on record!

Well, enough from me. How about the rest of you from Canada and the USA? Do you have crazy/weird Spring weather that you'd like to talk about? If so, share your thoughts in the comments! :D
