How and when did you fall in love with RPGs?

I've been gaming since the age of 6. My first consoles were the NES and Sega Master System 2. At age 8 I fell in love with the Pokemon games and have been playing them ever since. At age 12 I played Final Fantasy X and ever since have had a strong passion for RPGs. Final Fantasy X still remains my all time favorite game. What do I look for in an RPG? First of all I look for a good story and characters, including romace. I prefer turn-based battles.

Like you Skye89 my first system was the NES, with Zelda being my first taste of RPGs. But my real love was not kindled till I started playing AD+D (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons-by TSR) when I was in high school, and though I haven't had a group in years I still have all my books-dice and every character I ever made as well as my own world and all the stuff for it, plus another RPG based off the system for White Wolf's series Vampire The Masquerade.

Next to AD+D, my favorite series are Dragon Quest and Persona. Persona 4 was the most emotional video game one I ever played, and I won't spoil the story but it made me cry so hard at one point because you become so drawn to the characters.

I got half way through Dragon Quest 5 and I thought story was very good except the high encounter rate was driving me nuts :P.
I love the Persona series as well :). Am playing 3 at the moment then plan to play 4. I love it when a game makes you become so drawn to the characters ;). Final Fantasy 10 made me cry. I still cried years later when watching scenes from it :P. By the way they are doing a HD remaster of FFX for the PS3, perfect chance to replay my all time favorite game! So excited :D.
