The jingle dress of the Obijwe People

As with many other types of dancing, the origin of jingle dress dancing has many stories associated with it. This dance comes from the Anishinaabe-speaking people of Ontario, Canada, and the States of Michigan and Minnesota. It is the dance of healing the body, mind, emotions and spirit. It is said that the jingles may also represent waves of water as well as thunder. The sounds of the jingles are for healing and also bring good luck. Whatever the origin, jingle dress dancers are judged on their knowledge of traditional movements and their grace. The jingles on the dresses are made from twisted tin and the dance is very popular among young women and girls. There are usually 365 jingles on a dress to signify the calendar year.

I have never danced jingle dress style, I was mostly Traditional Buckskin, or Team Dancer with 2 other girls. But I do war dances, round dance, Rabbit, OWL, Chicken Hop, Butterfly. I enjoy them all but I am suffering from a knee problem now? I hope that I can dance again in the future.

Granny dances! I mostly do them now. Foot, knee and hip problems really mess with native dancing, there is so much hopping around. The Irish and Scottish probably have this problem too.

Yes, the bones do that to you as you age. but that is part of the circle of life. LOL and as I have gotten older have had that happen also.
Also the Granny dances can be very stately if done right. I saw one dancer and she was so regally elegant!
