Lightning Storms

This group is only for 'lightning storms'. If you love such images/ have some in your uploads, why not join this group and help others to find them easier. Hope to see you here.

some facts on lightning;

hotter than the sun (roughly 30,000 kelvins (53,540 degrees Fahrenheit) The sun surface temperature is just 6,000 kelvins (10,340 degrees Fahrenheit).

Lightning photography is both one of the most tricky and one of the most rewarding types of photography.

1) You get only one chance for the particular situation - it is not like portrait photography where you can go back in the studio if the photos didn't come out well;

2) lightning varies so much in brightness, intensity and location that guessing the proper exposure requires a lot of experience, as well as luck;

3) you are always at some risk when photographing worthwhile lightning; and

4) lightning is a point (line) source, and demands the most of the optical quality of your camera system. (for more information; http://www.weatherscapes.com/techniques.php?cat=lightning&page=lightning

Wallpaper Description:

In this electrifying space image, taken on Friday, June 7, 2013, a furious thunderstorm is discharging in mighty rage over Cerro Paranal. The colossal enclosures of the four VLT Unit Telescopes, each one the size of an 8-story building, are dwarfed under the hammering of the powerful storm. In the left of the image, a solitary star has emerged to witness the show--a single point of light against an obscured sky. This star is Procyon, a bright binary star in the constellation of Canis Minor (The Lesser Dog).
