Jasmine is a genus of shrubs and vines in the olive family . It contains around 200 species native to tropical
and warm temperate regions of the Old World.

The genus name is derived from the Persian Yasameen
("gift from God") through Arabic and Latin
Jasmine syrup, made from jasmine flowers, is used as a flavoring.
