Wallpaper Description:

It turns out owning an irreplaceable piece of automotive history—one that embodies the heart of one of the most iconic car brands in the world—can cost quite a lot of money. A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is on the market right now with an asking price of more than $56 million; should it sell for that amount, it will be the most expensive car in the world.

The 250 GTO, on sale by England-based vintage Ferrari seller Talacrest, was the second car to be built on its production line. It was the first GTO to be officially raced when Phil Hill won his class at the 12 Hours of Sebring in it. The GTO later raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it took home third in its class.

Before the car made its competition debut, it was used by Ferrari for evaluation purposes, then pawned off to Luigi Chinetti and the North American Racing Team. Talacrest claims the car has seen 27 different races and has claimed 17 different podium .

"It is a beautiful Ferrari, the Holy Grail of classic cars, and it has a great racing history having finished sixth overall at Le Mans and first in class at Sebring," Talacrest head John Collins told The Telegraph.

This example, chassis 3387, is painted a metallic blue with a central white stripe.

In 2014, Bonhams sold a GTO in America for $38 million, but that was the last time a GTO was put up on the auction block, The Telegraph reported.

"I have already had one offer on the car and know there will be interest," said Collins.

For a car like this, we can't imagine there would be anything but interest
