Wallpaper Description:

Earlier this month, I went to one of my favorite nature places with my camera. I got many nice photos; birds, squirrels, deer, snow along pathways... But I was also delighted to discover something new; a StoryWalk. :)

A StoryWalk® is a book that has been laminated and presented page by page along a nature trail, bike path, or in store windows to encourage both reading and exercise. They were invented by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont in 2013. (This is the 3rd one I've seen; the other two were also along nature paths.)

The story they chose for this path was "A Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. He both wrote and illustrated this book. In 1963 he received the Caldecott Medal for his exqusite collage artwork.

I absolutely love the pictures. I think I photographed every one of them! I wasn't planning to upload any of them to Desktop Nexus... but when I realized what a perfect fit the snow covered traffic light would be in my Traffic Signals nSigns Group, I couldn't resist! :D

PS. The snowflake with the question "Can you make tracks in the snow?" is not part of the original illustration. The people who created the StoryWalk put questions on every signpost to make the trail more interactive.

PPS. One of the reasons that I like this particular traffic light is that it's the style of light I saw when I was growing up. In my humble opinion, they are classier looking than the ones used today.

Here's a link to a wallpaper of the newer kind of traffic light so you can compare them side by side:

PPPS. I did manage to find and photograph an older style traffic light in my area last summer. It isn't a "complete light" but it was the only one that I could find. Here is the link to it:
