Wallpaper Description:

On January 6th, I had the good fortune to see Sun dogs with my camera handy. :)

This is the Sundog that was on the right side of the sun. I took it from our van on the freeway, as my husband drove. He could see the left sundog at that time but I could not.

ABOUT SUN DOGS
Sun dogs are 2 bright spots that sometimes appear on either side of the sun when it is near the horizon. They are caused by thin layers of high ice crystal clouds, called cirrus clouds. They can appear at any time of the year, but are more commonly seen on cold Winter days. Sometimes they resemble two small 2 bright suns, and at other times they may each look like a bit of rainbow.

Sun dogs got their common name because they follow the sun like a dog follows it's master. They are also called mock suns, phantom suns, parlions, or solar parhelia.
