Does anyone know a real life cowboy?
Is there anyone in your life that you would call a real cowboy? I don't mean someone who wears a ten gallon hat to Walmart to pick up some dog food! But someone who works on a ranch with horses or maybe a rodeo rider. I know there have to be some out there. Maybe a good story would help us conjure up some more wallpapers for this Group. It's a great subject with lots of history. Let us know. Thanks. NJ2TX aka Linda
Ah, I am sorry we live such lives that we no longer meet such a man. Perhaps I should have asked if anyone knows a man with the soul of a cowboy. There are women too with such a spirit. All those who get a tug at their heart when they think of this time in our past would be welcome here. Linda

Linda, I have a cowboy story about Jim Browning. About 5 summers ago, when the Lane Co. Fair was in progress, I was bicycling around town looking at yard sales. As I crossed a street a car was coming toward me but appeared to be slowing for the stop sign. But this driver had been putting down a few beers and wasn't judging distances well. He hit the back side of my bike and flipped me around to slam into the side of his car.Out jumps a tall cowboy in chaps and boots with cow shite still on 'em. "Oh, Ma'am!" he cried as he leaped out of his car. he scouped me up and put me in his front seat. Then he picked up my bike and put it in his trunk. He got in the car and took a good look at me. "How are you?" he asked. "Do you want me to take you to a hospital?"
But, really, only my knee had got slammed and my back fender bent. It had been scary but I wasn't hurt. So my previously tipsy, but now pretty sober cowboy drove me home and fixed my back tire.
I have been hit on my bicycle a dozen times since I have lived in Oregon but the cowboy is the only person who stopped and made an effort to help.
Cowboys may be known for whooping it up in the local saloon, but most have a deep seated respect of woman - probably because their mothers taught them a thing or two about how to behave around a lady when they were little. :) Thanks for sharing your story.
I sort of had an experience with a cowboy myself when I was young. Remember Daniel Boone, Fess Parker, from TV? I was in a supper club in Atlantic City, NJ with my best friend and her parents. The entertainment for the evening was singing by Fess Parker. What a voice he had, deep baritone. He was singing and suddenly looked over at me and smiled. When he finished the song, he walked over to me, got down on one knee, took my hands, and sang "My Cup Runneth Over With Love" directly to me! Quite an experience for a little ten year old girl! I don't know what sent him to me. Perhaps it was the intently interested look I was quietly fixing on him. Anyway, all the ladies (including my friend) were as shocked as I was, and a bit jealous too. After that song was over, he kissed my hand and went back on stage smiling broadly, and finished his show. I will never forget that as long as I live. Daniel Boone sang to me!! Not too many women can say that, I reckon!

Linda, I swear, your story gave me chills. Fess Parker was a rather babesome guy.

I actually work for a real life cowboy...He may not ride a horse when gathering his stock anymore but he is 89. His name is Harry Vold. Him and his wife Karen are the sweetest people I have ever met. He is a stock contractor for many rodeos. You must be a member of this group to post replies.
