Desktop Nexus is built to be a 100% family-friendly community. There are many other sites that allow members to push this line, permitting adult content or reckless disregard for fellow members... and if you desire to do that, I'm sure those other sites would be happy to have you, however at Desktop Nexus, we will not permit such behavior.

When a site grows to the size Desktop Nexus has become, a vast number of people from many different cultures around the globe are culminating under a single roof. This introduces a wide variety of different prospectives and social patterns. While we at Desktop Nexus respect everyones' individual culture, we do have a standard here we wish to enforce. Below I've laid out a few ground rules for successful interaction on our site:

Be polite and respectful. There a many different people on Desktop Nexus, and yes, that means there are many people who disagree with your opinions. Do not provoke arguments, and do not insult others for their view-points. If you disagree, feel free to point out your perspective, but do not start an argument. Respect is a rule we take very seriously, and we will not tolerate members posting incendiary or inflammatory comments, especially when they're directed toward other members. Such negativity undermines our community, and "bad apple" members will be sternly dealt with by the administration, potentially receiving a permanent ban from our site. If you wish to disagree with another member, please do so in a respectful, intellectual, logical manner, without emotional insult or personal attacks. This applies not only to public forum posts and comments, but also to private messages (PMs). If we receive word of abusive PMs being sent to members, we will investigate and deal with this abuse in the same manner as a public comment. That said...
Desktop Nexus supports freedom of speech and personal expression. We will not moderate a conversation or comment on grounds of content, unless that content is presented in a disrespectful or illegal manner. Political and religious disagreements are the most common, and as long as they remain respectful and polite, we will allow such debates. If someone's personal opinion offends you, feel free to stand up for yourself, but unfortunately we will not intervene on your behalf unless it gets out of hand. If you get involved in an argument you become uncomfortable debating, simply leave the thread and do not participate anymore. There are always many active threads on differing topics. If a conversation continues to PM, and becomes an issue of harassment, that is when it may be time to bring the conversation to the attention of the administration.
When posting in a thread, stay on topic. If you choose to participate in a thread in the Desktop Nexus forum, try to avoid going on tangents and derailing the flow of the conversation. When a member creates a thread, it's for a purpose of discussion on a single topic. If a particular thread reminds you of another topic you feel might be interesting to mention, instead of dragging the thread off-topic, please create a brand new thread. Any member should be able to read the first few posts of a thread, and the last few posts, and the conversation should still make sense. When a thread begins to evolve into a new topic, it's time to conclude that conversation and start a separate thread for conversation on the new topic. When you post off-topic in someone's thread, it's considered a showing of disrespect to the original thread creator.
Your account is yours and yours alone. Do not share your login information with anyone else, as any actions taken by your account will result in you being accountable. We have heard the excuse far too many times of "my brother logged into my account and posted that comment". Well when your account gets banned because of it, you have your brother to blame. Again, you are responsible for any action taken by your account. An extension to this guideline is if we have solid evidence of anonymous activity from a not-logged-in IP address linked to an account on Desktop Nexus, that account will be held liable. For example, in the past we have had members logging out of their accounts and performing (anonymous) malicious actions against our site from their same computer. We can track this, and the accounts responsible were identified and banned.
No illegal discussions are permitted. We are legally liable as a public medium for interaction, so we cannot allow open conversations promoting, soliciting, supporting, or describing methods relating to topics such as warez, hacking, cracking, drugs, copyright violations, or any other illegal topic. Our site operates under the laws of the United States of America, however international law might apply also, depending on the country you connect from, and the type of content posted. Basically, just be smart about what you post, and don't write anything you wouldn't want a police officer to see. Use your common sense.
Don't harass other members. This is almost an extension of the "be polite and respectful" rule, but I feel it is worth mentioning also. If you get into a disagreement with a member, and they remove themselves from the conversation/thread, do not continue via PM or their wallpapers/profile. If they do not want to continue talking to you, do not pursue it further: just let it go. Right now, Desktop Nexus does not have a method for blocking or ignoring members, but we are looking into adding that in the future. Until then, harassing members is a violation of our code of conduct, and excessive abuse of this rule could result in your account being banned.
All public conversation must be posted in the English language. We are well aware of the great linguistic diversity on Desktop Nexus, but in order to maintain a common ground for interaction, we request every public comment be made in English. If you wish to converse with your friends over Private Message (PM) in another language however, there is of course nothing wrong with that. We may create international versions of Desktop Nexus in the future, but as of now, English only please.
Do not use excessive profanity or crude language. We understand sometimes there's just no better word to describe your frustration or anger about an event, and we also understand we're not here to suppress your expression, however for the sake of keeping Desktop Nexus a family-friendly community, we do request you keep all profanity and crude language to an absolute minimum. If we feel your posts are excessive, a moderator will probably message you first, requesting you be mindful of this rule. Then if it is continually abused, ignoring our warnings, we may be forced to revoke your posting abilities. Just be respectful, and keep your language in check, and everything will be fine.
No racism or discrimination will be tolerated. I know we said we respect different view-points and opinions, but the one exception is we will not tolerate racist behavior. If you feel this way, please keep it to yourself. However, if you are respectful of other members (rule #1), this shouldn't be an issue anyway.
Respect members' rights to privacy. If you come into any personal information about any members of our site, do not post it publicly. Members are allowed to have a nickname on this site to retain their privacy, and any public postings which violate that privacy are strictly forbidden. Also, if a member sends you a PM, do NOT republish it anywhere, including the forum. It is called a "private" message for a reason, and reposting their PM in the forum is grounds for a permanent ban from Desktop Nexus. This is without their express permission of course.
Do not "bump" threads. If your thread hasn't been responded to, please refrain from "bumping" the thread, which is posting a small useless comment to the end of a thread for the sole purpose of moving it back up to the top of the forum thread list (as a recent thread). If no one has replied to your thread, they may just not have anything to say about it. Please be patient, and if you don't get the response you're looking for, feel free to try again with a new thread on a slightly different topic. Do not create duplicate threads however. If you start a new thread, approach the subject from a different direction to try and encourage more participation. Which brings me to...
Do not make duplicate threads or posts. Please be careful to not post the same thing multiple times. If you create three identical threads, you will get no more answers than if you had just created one... plus you will get on the moderator's bad side because they have to go behind you and clean up / delete two of them, which is never a good thing.
No spam or commercial posts allowed. We understand your product is going to revolutionize the world, and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but unfortunately Desktop Nexus is not the place for you to pitch it. Any post that has even an hint of commercial influence will be deleted, and full out spamming will result in an immediate account/IP banning. Even if the post seems completely innocent, but somewhere includes a link or URL to your commercial site, we will delete the post and ban the user. Affiliate links (such as to Amazon or Ebay) are also not allowed, and will be treated the same as a blatant spam post. Spamming over Private Messages are also dealt with the same as spamming public areas of the site. We request any member receiving commercial solicitations via PM report it to a member of the staff immediately. If you are an advertiser who wishes to reach the community at Desktop Nexus, please use our contact form, and we'll see if there are any possibilities for sponsorship.
A moderator or administrator has the final say. Our moderators and administrators are appointed because we trust them to make the right decisions, and in the event they make a decision on a dispute, that decision goes. For example, if they close or delete one of your threads for any reason, do not start up additional threads afterwards on the same topic. If a comment is deleted by a moderator, do not re-post it. Feel free to PM a moderator and politely request clarification, but do not take action against it. Any decision made by a member of the Desktop Nexus team is the final word, and we request that you respect that.

Sorry for such a long list, but I was trying to be as comprehensive as possible. Hopefully this will help clarify what to do and what not to do on Desktop Nexus. If you find a member violating any of these rules on a minor level, feel free to direct them to this thread. If you observe a major infraction, please contact a member of the staff and we'll work to resolve the situation.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and support!

If you have any questions or want any additional clarification on anything I mentioned here (or omitted), feel free to reply to this thread, and I'll update this main post accordingly.
