Yes, countries and their people should be allowed to develop as the people wish. Government is legitimate via the consent of the governed. If the people are content with their government, and that government is not inflicting pain and suffering on those who are citizens of other sovereign nations, nor encouraging such affliction of others who reside elsewhere, then the right of that people to determine their destiny should be respected.
If the people subject to a government are discontented with that government, then it their right to replace it with one that suits them.
It seems to me that ballots are a much more humane way to accomplish this than bullets. When the people are allowed to vote -- rather than being forced to violent revolution -- to change their government, that is called representative democracy.
What's "gross" about that?
