New Wallpaper Violation Reporting System

Hi everyone!

As part of our recent campaign to maintain the integrity and quality of the wallpapers on Desktop Nexus through our recent growth, we just rolled out a new system for reporting wallpaper violations. Desktop Nexus is getting HUNDREDS of new wallpapers uploaded everyday, and if we don't have a solid system in place for moderation, we'll soon be overrun with inappropriate and miscategorized images.

If you remember before this evening, this is what the old "Report This Wallpaper" pop-up looked like:

The new system is much more advanced. Now when you click that same tab, you'll be presented with this center-screen pop-up:

Each option has more detailed information inside about what that violation actually means, and allows members to leave their own comments for a moderator at the same time. In the past, we've received a large number of reported wallpapers, and without context, it's hard for me to understand why they're being reported.

Beyond this, the new system collects more data on category violations and tag violations (new). If a wallpaper is miscategorized, for example, this system will ask you where you feel it should be. This will make the job of the staff much easier, because if they agree, one click on our end with "agree" with you, and automatically move the wallpaper. Beyond this, if enough unique members recommend the same move location, it will prioritized that move higher on the todo list for the moderators, and will probably be taken care of quicker. After the site grows, and this system is solidified, these type of move actions might even become automated.

Now, most of you have (hopefully) seen the thread that's been pinned to the top of this forum for the past few months on New Galleries / Categories. I'm going to start the process of updating the category system in the next hour or so. This is going to subsequently create a number of brand new, empty categories. I would really appreciate your help in assisting with the recategorization effort. If you find any wallpapers that belong in the new categories, report them as miscategorized, and select the new category as where you feel it should go. Hopefully this will thin out a large portion of the "Other" folders.

Now, I'm sure a number of people are going to say "but what about duplicates?". I know, this system doesn't handle duplicates, and right now there's no way to report them except PM'ing a moderator manually. Rest assured, I'm aware of the duplicate problem, and I have some magic I'm working behind the scenes for a way to take care of them. The duplicate issue is going to be the next project on this campaign... I haven't forgotten, don't worry. :)

Let me know what you all think of the new reporting system! Any feedback?

I agree it would help us help you identify duplicates until the new duplicate scanning system is in place. We love the website, so we'd love to help out more.

Bug report

If you take a picture in for example people/other and try to say it belongs in abstract/other the report generates an error saying that the object is already in the other catagory.

As a matter of fact the report wont send if you try to go from other to another catagory in the same tree. Such as from other to female model in the people cat.

It's funny how this is the only site that happened to conveniently forget a "Copyright Violation" option in its reporting system.

Oh wait, maybe because ALL of the wallpapers here are stolen content.

Way to rip money off all the hard-working artists, designers & photographers that post copyrighted images on the internet in good faith, only to find that it ends up jacked and uploaded to countless image-greedy sites like this one.

It's also funny how easy it is for your douchebags to steal my art and upload it here, but I have to jump through hoops over the course of months to have it removed. IF it ever gets removed, that is. still waiting, checking regularly to see if my art has been removed from here yet. maybe by next century your mods will "feel like" removing my stolen art from your profitable little site.

Re: VenonXbaby's Post
WHOA!!
If you're referring to the above screenshot, it was posted in 2009! You pulled up a very old Forum Thread!!!
If you would look around the site, you will see at the bottom of every page is a clickon for COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS.. ALSO, under every picture, is a REPORT THIS WALLPAPER clickon. There you will see DMCA violations..Do you know what that is??

Every Professional artist knows that there is a way to Report a copyright violation to a site for removal! What do you mean IF it gets removed? IF it's reported correctly and not just complained about on public (members) forums, it is removed more quickly than other sites and well within our LEGAL time allowed to remove it.
Also...Art is found all over the internet, already cropped of any copyrights. We cannot know if our members chose it knowing it's copyrighted or if they found it without any sign of ownership. This is why there is a legal system for all sites that allow public uploads. Our members post images they appreciate and just want to share with other members, not to use commercially. However, they are told in the Rules for Uploading to respect the Copyright Laws and use Public Domain art! Also, they are given site violations and subject to banning.
Moderators cannot remove copyrighted art. The site owner handles ALL proper claims.
'Report This Wallpaper' -DMCA violation- under the wallpaper is EASY to use!
