Hi DN,

After talking about it for a while, I'm looking to finalize the new galleries and categories for Desktop Nexus to expand. When we were brand new, the site's structure was fine, but as we've grown, we need to expand our categorization.

Here is what I'm thinking so far, let me know if you have any suggestions or recommendations:

Animals Gallery
- Add Elephants category
- Add Giraffes category
- Add Zebra category
- Split Cats into "House Cats" and "Wild Cats"
- Split Dogs into "Dogs" and "Wolves"
- Add Ducks category
- Add Sheep category
- Add Kangaroo category

Cars Gallery
- Add Plymouth category

Entertainment Gallery
- Add Bollywood category
- Add Cartoons category (is it okay to have TV Series AND cartoons?)
- Add Parodies category

Abstract
- Add Abstract category
- Add Minimalistic category
- Eliminate Drug Related category
- Add Vector category
(I wish I had a way to break down "3D & CG" more, any suggestions?)

People
- Add Male Model category

Video Games
- Add Sonic category
- Add Gods of War category
- Add Gears of War category

(I need some more recommendations here... only suggest categories of which we currently have wallpapers on Desktop Nexus to fill. I don't want a bunch of empty religion categories).

- Rockets
- Submarines
- Tanks
(Category Aircraft->Military will be dissolved become a link to this new gallery)

Again, this is just a draft. I'll be revising this over the next day or two before it's put into effect... so I'd really appreciate your feedback and suggestions on it.

I think what you have is great so far. Would it be cool to have a comics category added to the Entertainment Gallery?

I think you have done a great job with the list you have so far and I am thrilled to see what you are getting rid of. Yeah!

Would it be simpler to just put a category of "wild dogs" vs. strictly 'wolves' (though they are my fav canine) because of other species of wild dogs?

As far as the 3D&CG, would it be possible to categorize the category? Adding sub-categories like:

paintings/drawings
beaches
animals
people
architecture
fractals/mind teasers
humor
etc.


And regarding the religion, could you insert gothic and even occult so none of those images end up where they don't belong?

You are doing a great job at continuing to build a great wallpaper site to an even better one than it already is. Keep up the awesome work.



Edited afterthought, where would you put images such as vampires and werewolves and any other related image?

Hmmm ..... another edited afterthought, I suppose those would go into a sci-fi category?

A 'World' gallery with different sub-categories consisting of countries and maybe famous cities would also be great.

nice new categories and gallery ideas... ah damn if your thinking of adding a food gallery i will have to stay out of there haha... a skull and fractal/ultra categorie would be nice, hm i think you missed Catholic in the Religous gallery...... and yeah you should add that male model categorie hehe ^_^

...Catholic belongs to Christian and I believe there's no need to split that category.

We need to Contract it a bit...

Then we have Photography

The (Expand) means to add sub-sub-categories.

Good point, the photography category is getting very cluttered and unorganized. However, I'm not sure it's a good idea to keep expanding in this way.

Shouldn't photography exist in every category? If a visitor is browsing the Animals->Birds category, wouldn't they expect to see high-quality photography of birds? By isolating the photography category by itself, it will probably steal high-quality photos from the more accurate categories around the site.

Perhaps we should take your suggestions, such as Urban/Rural and add it as a normal category somewhere else in the site... ?

I do like the idea of Still Life, but couldn't those go into the category of what the still life is of? For example, if the person takes a picture of a basket of apples, it could be categorized in the "Food and Drink -> Fruits" part of the site?

This is why we need a very broad, accurate revision of the current category system.

Just a thought though.

Still Life as in... Dolls, Robots etc.

But maybe take off the Animals section, and instead put in categories of Photography, Digital Art.

So like, Photography> Animals> Birds
or maybe even in Digital Art> Photomanipulation> Animals> Birds.
