Good quality is cleared, bad stays here!

Yesterday I uploaded a picture of Chris Ortega. It bore the title: Play the Harp in the Ghost House. Moderator Angel Fire deleted it because it is a duplicate. Ok is not good, I understand.
However, the remaining image of very poor quality and is smaller than mine.
I wish from Desktop Nexus good quality! And not one which I consider my background to select and cut into large pixels.
In addition, I always back the bad faultfinding TAG's. My Tag's were significantly better than in this picture. But this is just one example of many. I would hope it would be more people than the real artists TAG's adding. I do it, so I know him.

Wallpaper ID: 150728 Abstract Wallpapers > 3D and CG > RELAX

An please people, if one is in possession of a picture of a better or higher quality, tells me. I am willing my picture for a bigger and better quality delete them. I will allow moderators to delete all my picture comes when a better quality. Without great formality, which I was informed.

sorry can not find the picture your referring too,.
but if you click the Link symbol next to the little picture symbol just above where we write and then copy the url in the address bar it,ll give you a link to the picture you refer too..and then maybe some one can help you in getting a better picture uploaded which is almost the same but with subtle changes so it may stay up..
hope this helps and if you think the one that stayed up is blurred or of poor quality then all i can say is report it...:)
have a good one chat soon.byeee 4 now.

Hello Onuphrius,

The way things are with duplications is the person that uploads a wallpaper first has the original no matter if it is a smaller size than what someone else uploads. That is what we as Moderators follow as the rule set up by the owner of the site, Komodo. It would be great and better for DN if the larger resolution stayed and we understand that. My understanding is that in the future Komodo will be dealing with this issue, but for now the original stays no matter what size it is. If you feel it is poor quality, please report it. If it ends up coming off of DN then please do upload yours. The wallpaper was poorly tagged, I have fixed that.

I also find it very unreasonable to delete a high resolution image that turns up to be a duplicate of a poor quality image uploaded previously. If i find an image in 1600x1200 and upload it, and this image happens to be already uploaded with a terrible resolution of 800x600, and mine gets deleted, it is only a damage to the quality of DesktopNexus. You must agree that only a tiny bit of people nowadays use 800x600 resolution monitor. A 1600x1200 image can be resized to fit a 1600x1050, 1280x800, 1024x864 etc. monitors without any loss of quality, while a 800x600 can fit only to a 800x600 monitor.

Cheers!

I don't disagree with what you are saying but I also need to follow what is the rule on duplicated wallpapers.

Greetings DN Community.

Let me cut through the chase here.

As much as we here at DN would love to have nothing but high quality uploads, there is much more to DN than the wallpapers that can be found here. I'm talking about the community we have here at DN. Without the community, DN would be just like any other wallpaper site.

Now with that being said, and speaking as a Moderator, I'm much more interested in being fair to all those who are members here. Quality images are important, yes, but so are the members. So if a member had uploaded an acceptable quality image that was smaller in resolution than what you wanted to see uploaded, that's the way it goes.

Lets not confuse good quality with higher resolution, you can still have a very high quality image at the 800x600 resolution range. Now for most of you that are concern about the smaller resolutions, that is why DN has the built-in resolution re-sizing feature.

Bottom line to all this is the member who has the first upload up is the one that gets to stay. All others will be treated as the duplicates, that they are, and will be removed.

*A word to those who have smaller uploaded resolutions*
If you can find a higher resolution of the images you already have uploaded, you can upload those, then remove your smaller resolution uploads. Just a suggestion.

I just downloaded a 800x600 image, and DN re-sized it to 1280x1024. But actually that wasn't necessary for DN to do. No more details will be added, that's impossible. And my Windows XP can simply fit the image to it's desktop background itself. The OS can do its own re-size, without increasing the files resolution and faking quality. Which could be thought of a file with a higher resolution. The only important thing is just to adjust the aspect ratio to ones monitor with cropping.

You have to correct me, but I think there will be a problem. Because it will require a new upload, which means the stats of the old upload will be lost.

Not necessarily. Once a member has uploaded a replacement higher resolution, they can send me both URL's to their new replacement and to their smaller, older image. I can then use the Moderator 'Merge' function and merge both images together.

FYI: This does not actually merge the images themselves, this simply auto deletes one image and transfers all the stat's to the other image. Normally this merges newer images with the older, but I have seen it work in reverse.

It can, but our site's resizing algorithm is superior to the Windows resizing algorithm. When you download an upsized wallpaper from Desktop Nexus, it should look better. Of course your results may differ with different images... I'm speaking in general terms.

I agree with OP, best quality should remain. Who posted first is pointless unless they are the artist, in which case I assume they posted the best quality as well. As for the resizing feature here at DN, its very nice; and it will give a better result from a better image. GIGO.
