I understand that they are, and I had already talked to one of the moderators. From what I can tell, they're being very helpful with the artists who have made claims. I'm not attacking anyone. My only issue was with Avenger, and the way that he made his statements. Not to mention anyone else who believes that just because you post your picture online, it becomes public domain.
I already had stated in the thread that was deleted that I understood that many people could have gotten them from sites other than DA and used them without prior knowledge. I never condoned any name-calling or harassment. I would rather see this solved with civility. I am a huge supporter of 'Ask, I'm sure they'd be happy as long as they're given credit.'
I just don't want people like Avenger coming in here and saying things like "If you did and haven't received a specific copyright, to each and every image you have drawn, painted, designed graphically, or created in any other medium, you have no claim of copyright infringement!" when it's patently untrue.
IvoryShiki, I should have been more precise in what I said. A lot of the Deviants have been leaving comments for DesktopNexus members threatening legal action and a legal action is defined as a suit for damages and/or injunction. So to be precise: without a registered copyright a suit may not be filed. The provisional copyright does give you rights, but not to file a court case of copyright infringement. The purpose of my remark was to let the Deviants know that if they did have an unsolvable problem to receive settlement of the issue in the courts they would have to register their provisional copyrights. A lot of major cities, around the world, have art centers that can help you do this or recommend a copyright lawyer.
Thank you for the explanation of your statement. It is indeed good for all to know that they can't jump on the 'threatening to sue' bandwagon. I apologize if my post was irritated, it just appeared that you were condoning the actions of people who may have knowledgeably used the artwork without permission.
I just noticed this on a DesktopNexus members upload. This is the kind of thing that is
going to keep a "war" going, instead of bring things to a "peaceful" resolution!

There's no need or reason whatsoever that anyone should act that way. At least simply say "Please take my art down, I would rather it not be used." I hope they were reported to moderators.
Why do you expect people whose art has been ripped to come here and be all sweetness and light?
Why?
I find it hypocritical that you think that those of us who have been stolen from are supposed to be nice to those of you who have wronged us. Wow.
I've started going through some of the galleries here and am notifying the authors of art I recognize as being ripped from dA. I think the work could go on forever.
I didn't say you should be sunshine and happiness, but there's a modicum of civility that everyone from DA (as a respectable art community) should assume. If you want to be shown the respect that you're expecting (i.e. as the artist who created the artwork that's been ripped, you want people to respect your copyright), you need to show respect in yourself and not fall to the level of name-calling and spamming and bashing. To do those things will only make people want to argue even more.
I find it hypocritical that people from DA would come over here, demanding that people here respect their copyrights and take down the art, and yet those same people demanding respect are leaving comments like Avenger showed.
And I'm a paying member of DA, and came over here to find ripped art and report it as well. Go figure.
It was the people here who disrespected us. Giving a bit of that disrespect back is rather justified.
I really don't get this whole idea that people here seem to have of "You have to be nice to us! Wah wah wah! Yes, we stole your work but so what? You have to be respectful! Wah wah wah!"
Guess what? No, we really don't have to be nice. The respect should have started here. The onus to be honorable was on the members of THIS site.
There are people here who knowingly stole our art. Who didn't care at all. Who have blatantly said that they'll continue to steal from us and anyone else they feel like stealing from. The admins aren't doing anything to the people who've stolen. I just found one gallery that's full of ripped art. I reported him to as many artists as I recognized, one in particular.
I haven't sworn or been mean or stupid but I completely understand those who are.
I really doubt that you even read my post, but that's ok. You'll just continue to bring down the name of the DeviantArt community by condoning childish name-calling and harassment. But it's all good, right? They disrespected us so we'll sink as low as we can.

I didn't say I condone anything...perhaps you didn't read MY post? I wrote that I understand it. There's a rather huge difference between those two things.
I read your post, I just don't happen to agree. If you're going to be appalled at the dA members who've come here angry and report their behavior to the mods, then the people who've stolen art should have consequences to their actions, too. Until or unless that happens, all I see is a bunch of whining from members here.
