Before DesktopNexus members get too carried away thanking DeviantArt members for their "politeness", they should go to DeviantArt and check out all the posting saying that their goal is to have DesktopNexus shutdown! I think you're one who's made that comment aren't you, Marsille?
In response: I did say that on Sunday when I was getting no co-operation from DN members. I was very angry at the time. Still I have been as polite as it is possible when dealing with members here. I just haven't gotten around to editing my journal, because I have had to spend so much time here searching out things of mine, that were taken with out my permission. I do not have all day to spend on the computer.. I live with and care for my 87 year old mother.. That requires a lot of my time. I will be sure to remove that as soon as I get to dA. I hope that will satisfy you. Marsille

There are two ways to shutdown DesktopNexus. One legal, and one illegal. The legal way, DA never could win because DN has done nothing wrong. The illegal way, I hope they are more powerful than the FBI.

I have been on DA and have read a great deal of their postings. I don't think believe for one minute that thanking those DA members that have shown kindness here is inappropriate nor do I believe that this site will be put asunder by some people that just need something to continue to argue about. The issue of copyrights is in the process of resolution so I am failing to see why there is still so much more hostility.
I'd just like to let you guys know for reference that if an image has the download option turned on at deviantart then when you save the image it has the artists name in, so if you are trying to get in touch with an artist to get permission and can't remember their name, you may be able to find out from the file name.
I am not disputing you at all but I just wanted to point out something. Microsoft has been having a problem since 2002 with their pictures saving in Internet Explorer only as .bmp images and they do not even save any filename. They have tried in vain to offer some solutions, like clearing the internet cache, but that has not always worked or been a lasting solution if it did. I discovered this the hard way when I had to go back and look up some of the pictures' original artists.

Yeah, I have to admit. There may be problems even if the artists put in their names. There are indeed possibilities that information could be lost.

Sorry larisa, I wasn't aware of that. I'm running firefox and it always works for me, I haven't used internet explorer for quite awhile. I didn't intend my comment as criticism, I was just trying to help people like you who are trying to track down artists!
Like you, I hope the hostility eases soon. Maybe eventually some dA users will start using dn and vice versa. I personally like the idea of desktop nexus as a place to share my wallpapers.
Well... you as a community must have done something to piss them off, people at dA don't get angry easily.
The problem with wallpaper websites is that most posted pictures will be a copyright infringement and running a website like this is just asking for problems.
It's good that you're helping them, but this should have been solved when the files are uploaded. If I as an artist don't know this website exists, how do you prevent users from uploading my art?
@RandomUser: What a few people did was take artwork from dA (some of which was not available for download), erase the names and alter the work in some way, and upload it here. I have yet to find a case where the DN member claimed it as their own work, but it is still wrong in every way. The more I think about this, the more people need to upload their work on dA and here. That's what I did. I make art for people to put on their desktop and enjoy. Would I be upset if someone put my work up on another website without the proper recognition? Absolutely. Would I attack someone personally for doing it? No. I would go through the proper channels to have it removed or corrected.
I believe we should concentrate on possible solution current issue and leave behind the bringing down of any of the sites and stop attacks from both sides.
The facts is that, unfortunately, only a small portion of people are following this thread, and another fact is that DA art will somehow, intentionally or unintentionally, find its way on DN pages. DN simply cannot know who an uploaded wallpaper belongs to, which artist's hands have created that art. It would be wonderful to see DA and DN working together, maybe even somehow share the database, but it seems to be a low possibility. All that we can do is to be more sensitive (for the ones who read this thread), artists to report any art that has been uploaded without their consent, and take this issue with ease, because as i have pointed out earlier, your art may have had a long way before it appeared on DN. It is just the way things happen and will happen.
Please post any other suggestions that you think can solve this issue, at least to some extent. I am sure that administration will also be interested in hearing what you have to propose, because filling tens of possible complaints everyday is time consuming, and their processing is even more time consuming.
